Regulation of glycogenolysis

Intracellular glycogen stores are used to maintain blood-glucose homeostasis during fasting, are a source of energy for muscle contraction, and are used to support a broad range of cellular activities in most tissues. Glycogen phosphorylases (liver, muscle and brain forms, PYGL, PYGM and PYGB) catalyse the breakdown of glycogen to glucose-1-phosphate for glycolysis to support these cellular requirements.

Challenge

How do we describe the involvement of GBE1 which is required for normal glycogen accumulation? Transfers a segment of a (1->4)-alpha-D-glucan chain to a primary hydroxy group in a similar glucan chain.
